MORE
ABOUT theFTTC MENTORS AND MODEL, THE PILOT PEN FAMILY
CLASSIC: In its seventh year, the Pilot Pen Tennis
Family Classic is a family tennis competition that
promotes a fun, family atmosphere on the tennis court.
The tournament takes place at approximately 80
indoor/outdoor tennis clubs across Connecticut, New
York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island from October to
August. In 2007, over 4,000 family members will
participate in a Family Classic event. The Family
Classic experienced 33% participant growth in 2006 from
2005. Each year, over 400 participants earn a spot in
the Regional Championships held at the Pilot Pen Tennis
courts in July with winners moving on to the finals that
are played during the Pilot Pen in August. Winning teams
are awarded on stadium court in between Pilot Pen
quarterfinal matches. |
theFTTC vision is to have our regional tournaments played in
conjunction with major US Open Series and ATP events in
California. Like our mentors at the
Pilot Pen Family Classic,
our players will have a "center court moment" and will be
recognized by theFTTC and its sponsors and pro-tennis partners.
In order to keep a balanced draw in all Regional
Tournaments, Local Area Tournament winner
teams
advancing to theFTTC Regional Tournaments are designated to play
in one FTTC
Regional Tournament by theFTTC Tournaments Director.
theFTTC organization and its sponsors are 100% in charge of the
operation, funding and overall executive management of the
Regional and Championship Tournaments. |
TOURNAMENT DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Regional Tournament Event affiliation relationships and sponsorship
arrangements are pending completion of discussions. The number,
venue and schedule of Regional Tournaments is subject to fluctuate
based on the number of players who will signup for Local Area
Tournaments during the season.
theFTTC California Regional
Tournament venues and geographic allocations
will be responsive to market demands but
will be guided by the information displayed here.
theFTTC will launch its inaugural season in February 2008.
The goal is to organize as many Local Area tournaments as
possible in order to be able to conduct a robust regional
and championships tournament program. Given a rate of 33%
annual growth - similar to that of the New England Pilot Pen
Family Classic - theFTTC plans to reach its full body of
Local Area, regional and championship tournaments by its third
season of 2010-2011
At full stride the plan for
theFTTC Regional venues as illustrated below will
include:
 |
one serving Northern CA, |
 |
one serving Central CA and Los Angeles area,
|
 |
one serving the San Bernardino and Riverside County
regions |
 |
one serving Orange and San Diego County
|
 |
one
Championship
Finals event in Santa Barbara chosen both for its
geographic convenience and its destination tennis resort
qualities. |
These are not hard geographically-bound regions
but rather flexible venue options that theFTTC Tournament
Directors will manage to achieve balanced competition and
enjoyment for all teams throughout theFTTC Regionals program. The numbers noted are
the quantity of FTTC Local Area Tournament venues each county
population size can support on its own or contribute to a
neighboring county.

GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE OF theFTTC REGIONAL AND CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS
|
|
The
California economic-regions-map shows theFTTC California
"regions". Each FTTC region is
formed by multiple neighboring counties
defined by their current support of the sport of tennis
sustaining
US Open Series, ATP/WTA world-class pro events held in their areas
and attracting corresponding
corporate sponsorship investment
dollars.

theFTTC BRACKETS

the player draws for each bracket will be robust and provide ample and
meaningful competition for all family team combinations. At all times,
however, theFTTC Tournament Directors will manage each event and if
necessary will combine brackets and skill levels to ensure maximum
team play opportunity and fun participation for all. |

Local
Area
Tournaments may run as few or as many of these divisions – depending on the number
of participants and format that works best for the Local Area event.
theFTTC
Tournament Directors -- Local Areas and Regionals -- may combine
parent-child divisions if there is a limited number of
participants. Example: Run a draw with Mother-Child 11&U, and
Father-Child 11&U. Even if an FC11 team wins the draw, the MC11
team who advanced the furthest in the draw would also be
eligible to advance to the Regional/Championship
Tournament |

TOURNAMENT PRIZES, REWARDS, FEES & PROGRAM FINANCES
theFTTC is a nonprofit
corporation financed from corporate and community tennis sponsorships,
from player membership dues and tournament fees plus individual
donations, fundraising events & campaigns. |
In its early years, theFTTC will be largely self-financed from
tournament play and membership donations but as the organization gains
exposure and market appeal we expect that sponsorship funding will
become more and more available, the plan is to correspondingly then,
reduce player fees to the minimum possible.
theFTTC is a family membership & sponsorship-partners
supported nonprofit organization. Tournament fees cover
their operation costs and a portion of theFTTC general
operating budget for staff and resources.
